The art district is a vital part of the resurgence of this centrally located, historic neighborhood. Located near downtown, the area is home to many galleries and artist studios, several ethnic restaurants and the Museo de las Américas, the only museum in the Rocky Mountain region dedicated to Latino art. Several of the region’s best-known cooperative galleries are located in the district. Artists on Santa Fe, steered by one of the region’s foremost arts advocates, owner/potter Macy Dorf, is one of Denver’s oldest member-driven galleries. Just south of the gallery district, one of the region’s oldest and most respected framing companies, Platte River Art Services, is celebrating its 30th anniversary in business. Congratulations Bob and Judy Pietlock. The area’s annual holiday celebration, Luminarias de Santa Fe, is held in early December, and the district sponsors a hugely popular First Fridays Art Walk, once voted Denver’s best gallery walk by the weekly periodical Westword.
